In his words

Four things Gui notices in the CXT-3.

Gui's sessions mix heavy barbell work with jumps, lunges and fast transitions. These are the four things he says the CXT-3 gets right, and the part of the shoe behind each one.

The heel stays put.

“The CXT-3 has extra support around the heel, and that's the first thing I notice when I put it to work.”

Gui Malheiros

What's doing it: a new external TPU heel counter that extends into a full side rail, wrapping the rear foot so it doesn't shift when the bar gets heavy.

Heel cup provides more support almost like my TYR Lifters." - TYR customer, Black Crystal

A stable base under the bar.

“"It feels stable when I'm under the bar, but it's still light enough when I need to move fast."”

Gui Malheiros

What's doing it: a firm platform with a 9mm drop. It keeps your foot planted through squats and deadlifts instead of sinking into soft foam.

"Lifting-I feel connected to the floor." - TYR customer, Tangerine

Grip when you change direction.

“The traction on the CXT-3 helps me feel connected to the floor when I'm changing directions or moving quickly.”

Gui Malheiros

What's doing it: a TYRTAC™ herringbone rubber outsole, built to grip through every transition and in every direction.

"Supportive under the weight of the yoke and grippy on the asphalt." - TYR customer, Black/Gum

Light when the pace goes up.

“I want a training shoe that can handle heavy work without making every jump feel heavy.”

Gui Malheiros

What's doing it: an ounce lighter than the CXT-2, with a breathable mesh upper and no-sew overlays. SURGENRG™ foam in the midsole gives some spring back on jumps.

"Stable and flexible … Really shows in my box jumps." - TYR customer, Black Crystal

One pair, start to finish

Stop changing shoes mid-session.

Lifters pack two pairs because most shoes are good at one half of the workout. Here's the CXT-3 next to a cushioned running shoe and a lifting shoe.

One TYR customer put it simply: "this shoe lets me do everything without changing shoes."

Why Gui trains in it

One shoe for the whole session.

"Heavy barbell, I need stability. Fast workout, I need to move. The CXT-3 gives me both in one training shoe."

"The heel feels secure, the outsole grips, and I don't have to think about changing shoes halfway through my session."

"What stands out to me is the balance. My heels feel supported whenever I'm lifting, but the shoe still feels light when the pace goes up."

"It's a combination I can actually use every day."

Before you buy

It's firm. That's the point.

The CXT-3 is a cross trainer built with a lifting bias. Here's what that feels like, in reviewers' words.

It feels firmer than a runner.

That's what keeps you planted under the bar. If you want a soft, cushioned feel, this isn't it.

"These are harder and flatter feeling - better for lifting"

Room to grip the floor.

The forefoot gives your toes room to spread under load. If you need more width, men can pick Wide Black/Gum.

"The extra toe room really helps stabilize me when I'm doing squats."

Keep them on for the run.

Short runs inside a workout don't mean a shoe change. Lift, run, and get straight back under the bar.

when it comes to short runs and lifting they are a great all around shoe.

FAQ

Questions lifters ask.

What size should I get?

TYR lists the CXT-3 as true to size, so order your usual. If your feet are wide, men can choose Wide Black/Gum. Check the size chart on the product page if you're between sizes.

Is it a lifting shoe?

It's a cross training shoe with a lifting bias: a firm base, a 9mm drop and an external heel counter for squats and deadlifts, plus enough flex for jumps and short runs. If you only do Olympic lifting, a dedicated lifter like TYR's L-2 is the better tool.

How is it different from the CXT-2?

It's an ounce lighter, it has a new external TPU heel counter that extends into a full side rail, and the upper is a breathable mesh with no-sew overlays.

Which colors does Gui wear?

In the video, Gui squats in Sandstorm and deadlifts in Sand.

Can I run in it?

Short runs inside a workout, yes. For longer runs, we recommend a running shoe like the TYR Valkyrie Elite V2.

What if it doesn't work for me?

Easy returns within 30 days. See TYR's return policy for the details.
